Hazrat Abul Hasan Ali Hajveri (R.A) aka the Daata Sahib was a Sufi saint of the 11th century CE. He is revered as one of the most respected Sufi saints and has contributed heavily to the spread of Islam in the subcontinent. His shrine lies at the center of Lahore and is known as the Daata Darbar (The court of the giver). He is regarded as the patron saint of Lahore and hundreds of people pay visit to his shrine everyday. His death anniversary is celebrated as a local holiday in and around Lahore and the city is subsequently known as the "Daata di nagri" (The town of the giver).

Today's banbhore is a small town in contrast to what it once was, a busy port city of Debal. For centuries the city served as the major seaport of the Indian subcontinent. It is here that Muhammad bin Qasim, the first muslim general to set foot in Hindustan captured and destroyed the fortress of Raja Dahir. It is also the hometown of Sassi, a famous character of the legendary love story of Sassi & Punnu.
