Its not just a fort, its a fort complex!

The Lahore Fort Complex aka the Shahi Qila, the exact origins of the existence of a citadel in its place remain shrouded in mystery. Evidence suggests that it was there in the medieval times. The fort housed several Mogul emperors including Akbar under whom it reached its zenith as the emperor's residence and the capital. The original wall surrounded the old city of Lahore, its gates are all that still remain. The main structure of the fort still remains pretty much intact. It was declared as one of UNESCO's world heritage sites. The main entrance of the fort faces the famed Huzuri bagh and the Badshahi mosque.

The complex contains gardens, bed chambers and courts of several emperors, the Naulakha pavilion, Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque) and the dazling Sheesh Mahal and much more. It simply reminds one of the Mogul grandeur and is a must see for someone who visits Lahore.
